1868
  • Founded as a Buddhist preaching facility in the premise of Chion-in Temple
1912
  • Founded “Koto Gakuin” in accordance with the Professional School Act
1913
  • Changed name to “Bukkyo Professional School”
1934
  • Moved to its present location; 96, Kitahananobo-cho, Murasakino, Kita-ku
1949
  • Established Bukkyo University under the government ’s educational policy reform
  • Installed School of Buddhism with new Department of Buddhism
  • Approved as Incorporated Educational Institution
1953
  • Installed Correspondence Division
1957
  • Installed Buddhist Studies Program
1962
  • Installed Department of Buddhist Welfare, predecessor of the present Department of Social Welfare
1965
  • Installed Department of Japanese Literature, in accordance with reorganization of School of Buddhism, created School of Literature
  • Renamed Department of Buddhist Welfare into Department of Social Welfare

  • Installed Department of History in School of Literature
